It is the first Netflix series to be produced by Shonda Lyms since signing with Netflix in 2017, but the show is closer to the vision of chief executive and veteran Chris Van Duzen of Shondarland. Based on Julia Quinn's novel, the work has a distinctly different background from the shows of the TV empire of Shonda Rimes.

The voice of Lady Whistler, author of a mysterious newsletter, is heard in the Regency of London (1811-1820). "Grosvenor Square, 1813. Readers, it's time to make our bets for the upcoming social season.'

It is time for young women in London to find their husbands and enter the marriage market. Young women have several opportunities there, and if they miss it, they will live alone forever. The three young daughters of the Federington family, Philippia, Prudence, and Penelope, are all represented and actively appealed to the suitors.

And their neighbor is the Bridgerton family. For a rather large family led by Mrs. Violet and Janja Anthony (Jonathan Bailey), the eldest daughter, Daphne (Pibi Dineber), is in the marriage market for the first time and is in a state of excitement. After Britain's Queen Charlotte saw Daphne and said, "There are no flaws," she became everyone's concern and Lady Whisldown and many people thought Daphne could make a choice among many suitors.

Meanwhile, Simon Bassett (Legid Jean Page) returns to London and enters Lady Danbury's house. He took over the title of Duke of Hastings after his father's death. He is not interested in his father's relics and is not interested in marriage at all. But Mrs. Danbury persuades him to attend the first ball of the season. Eventually, Simon, who attended the ball, ran into Daphne.

Daphne, who initially thought she had to choose among countless suitors, had fewer suitors than expected due to the involvement of her brother Anthony and the sudden mysterious woman Marina Thompson. Mrs. Bridgerton and Mrs. Danbury are trying to put Daphne and Simon together, but it's not as easy as you think. Furthermore, Anthony, who has been friends with Simon since childhood, thinks he is not fit for his sister. Anthony thinks Daphne's husband is an old, ugly, but flawless Lord Burbrook.

Lord Burbrook, who gained Anthony's confidence, takes a bold step toward Daphne at the next ball, but falls with a blow from Daphne's fist. Simon, who witnessed the scene, signed a secret contract with Daphne.

Downton Abbey comes to mind, but there are faster conversations and sex. Maybe you can think of it as the Grey Anatomy of London in the early 19th century. Bridgerton has a completely different background from the previous works of Shonda Limes, but it fits well with the other works of Shondarland.

It is full of colorful and diverse cast members, many fickle and quick conversations, and sex and explicit sexual tension. Although much attention was paid to the design of the costumes and sets, it is noticeable that more attention was paid to the development of the character.

The background of the times when young women are put on the "marriage market" is not everything in the drama. What producer Chris Van Duzen is focusing on is the fact that Daphne continues to resist being chosen for her future by her brother or someone else, and that the relationship between her and Simon continues to spark while pretending it is not true.

That's all. There is no profound message. There are only bubble conversations and simmering sexual tension. Therefore, it is a drama that people who hate period dramas can watch lightly. Bridgerton doesn't have to think deeply because it's just a fun drama.
